Fintrac Assists Honduran Coffee Cooperatives to Enter Specialty Coffee Market:

Equipment and Technology Provided to the "Unión de Productores de Café del Occidente" in Ocotepeque

La Lima, Honduras (May 30, 2002) - On May 29, 2002, Fintrac CDA officially handed over selected equipment and technology to the Unión de Productores de Café del Occidente" in Ocotepeque. This group is made of five cooperatives covering 800 coffee producers. The equipment included a complete cupping laboratory, two static dryers, a dehuller, a catador and a sorting belt. For the first time this enables the farmers to fully process their coffee at a local level as opposed to transporting wet parchment to centralized exporter facilities, This will result in better quality maintenance, essential for specialty coffee, and also reduce transport costs. This type of assistance has not been provided previously to the coffee sector in this region.

More than 100 persons were present for the handing over, including the Presidents of the cooperatives, local mayors and representatives of IHCAFE, ANACAFE, AHPROCAFE and SAG.
